The California Column

The California Column is the official newsletter of the Department of California and Pacific. It was named for the California Column, a force of nearly 2,000 Union volunteers during the American Civil War, which marched over 900 miles from California, across the southern New Mexico Territory to the Rio Grande and then into western Texas, engaging Confederate forces at Stanwix Station and Picacho Pass, and Indians under the famous Apache leader Cochise at Apache Pass.

The California Column is generally published four to six times per year, or as needed. It shall publish all orders of the Department Commander and may be used to provide Brothers with due notice of a Special Department Encampment. As space permits, news and other information relating to Camps, the Department, the National Organization, and the Allied Orders will be published.

Department Officers, Camps, and individuals are encouraged to submit articles and photos for consideration via e-mail to the Department Newsletter Editor at:

editor@suvpac.org
