							Preserving the memory of the Grand Army of the Republic and our ancestors who fought to preserve the Union 1861 - 1865 The Sons of Union Veterans of the Civil War is a patriotic and educational organization, similar to the Grand Army of the Republic. It was founded on November 12, 1881 and incorporated by Act of Congress August 20, 1954. The Sons of Union Veterans of the Civil War is the legal heir to and representative of the Grand Army of the Republic. The Gen. U. S. Grant Camp No. 9 of the Sons of Union Veterans of the Civil War (SUVCW) was established on June 16, 2004, and was named for the local Grand Army of the Republic (GAR) post of the same name and number. The Gen. U. S. Grant Post 9, GAR was in turn named for Gen. Ulysses Simpson Grant (1822-1885).

	AREA: The Camp serves Modesto and the southern Central Valley of California.
