||||
David Bonner (also spelled Boner) was born in Cumberland County, Pennsylvania to David and Hanna (Wilson) Bonner, in May 1828. He was one of nine children, and the older brother of Wilson Bonner (who served in the 6th Pennsylvania Heavy Artillery). David’s first wife was Mary Windemaker. They had a daughter, born in 1849, whose name is unknown. After Mary’s death, David married Emily Boward. They had no children and she died sometime after 1898. David’s third wife was Catharine McCunn. They had nine children, namely: James, Thomas Johnston, Edward W., Martha J., Hannah E., McClelland, David, Mowry, and George Hettrick. David lived with his family in Brush Valley, Pennsylvania. On August 6, 1862, David Bonner enlisted for a nine month term in the U.S. Army and was mustered into Company G of the 130th Pennsylvania Infantry Regiment, at Carlisle, Pennsylvania. In his 1881 Declaration for Original Invalid Pension, David recalls that on September 17, 1862 "at the Battle of Antietam I was wounded in my testicle which has caused me considerable trouble . . . and great inflammation. I also received a saber cut in the calf of my left leg." He was mustered out at Harrisburg, Pennsylvania on May 21, 1863. Ten months later, David re-enlisted as a Private in Company A, 101st Pennsylvania Infantry Regiment. This was a three year term, but he was mustered out at the end of the war on June 25, 1865, at New Berne, North Carolina. David died on February 12, 1905 in Brush Valley, Pennsylvania and is buried there in the Cresswell Cemetery. |
