The Sons of Union Veterans of the Civil War is a patriotic and educational organization, similar to the Grand Army of the Republic. It was founded on November 12, 1881 and incorporated by Act of Congress August 20, 1954. The Sons of Union Veterans of the Civil War is the legal heir to and representative of the Grand Army of the Republic.

The Phil Sheridan Camp No. 4 of the Sons of Union Veterans of the Civil War (SUVCW) was formed on December 4, 1897 and is the oldest Camp in the Department of California and Pacific. It was named for and sponsored by the Phil Sheridan Post No. 7, Grand Army of the Republic (GAR) of San José, which was in turn named for Gen. Philip H. Sheridan (1831-1888).

  • AREA: The Camp serves the Northern California counties of Santa Clara, San Mateo, and San Francisco (shared with Gen. Alfred Pleasonton Camp No. 24).
     
  • MEETINGS: The Camp generally meets bi-monthly on the third Saturday of odd numbered months, at the American Legion Hall, Mission City Post 564, 2120 Walsh Avenue, Santa Clara, CA.
     
  • NEWSLETTER: The Sheridan's Dispatch is published bi-monthly.
     
  • MEMORIAL DAY PARTICIPATION: Memorial Day Observance, Oak Hill Memorial Park, San José, CA.
     
  • VETERANS DAY PARTICIPATION: Veterans Day Parade, Downtown San José, CA.
     
  • DUES: Annual Camp dues are $35.00 with a one time Application/Admission Fee of $10.00.
