WHO WAS  ALMERON J. PATCHIN?

Almeron J. Patchin was a Private in the 20th Ohio Infantry during the American Civil War and the great-grandfather of Camp organizer John P. Patchin.


Almeron John Patchin was born in Cayuga County, New York on November 28, 1840, the son of Isaac Lewis Patchin and Hannah Wolf.

At Mount Vernon, Ohio on November 2, 1861, he enlisted for three years in Company E, 20th Ohio Volunteer Infantry. At that time he was nearly thirty years old and a teacher by profession. He re-enlisted on January 1, 1864. Almeron was severely wounded by a gunshot in the right arm at Atlanta, Georgia on July 22, 1864 and had to have the arm amputated. Because of his injury, he received a disabilty discharge from the General Hospital at Camp Chase, Ohio.

On April 11, 1866, Almeron married Eunice Warren in Silver Lake Township, Martin County, Minnesota. They subsequently moved to Labette County, Kansas, where he died on January 12, 1906. He was interred in the Oswego Cemetery there.
