Almeron John Patchin was born in Cayuga County, New York on November 28, 1840, the son of Isaac Lewis Patchin and Hannah Wolf. At Mount Vernon, Ohio on November 2, 1861, he enlisted for three years in Company E, 20th Ohio Volunteer Infantry. At that time he was nearly thirty years old and a teacher by profession.
