Charles W. "Charlie" Mabie was born June 18, 1964 in Redwood City, California, the younger of two children born to Charles K. and Anneliese Mabie. He was raised in the San Francisco Bay Area and graduated from San José State University in 1987 with a bachelor's degree in social science. After a two-year stint working with developmentally disabled adults, he chanced upon employment in juvenile probation, first as a juvenile hall counselor and later as a probation officer. He is currently a United States Probation Officer, conducting pre-sentence investigations.

Charlie has always been interested in family history, having both his father and grandfather regale him with stories of family lore. When his great-granduncle provided him with a photocopy of Charlie's great-grandfather's SUVCW membership certificate, Charlie began a search that eventually brought him to join the Gen. Alfred Pleasonton Camp No. 24, of which he is a Past Camp Commander. Charlie also belongs to two units of the Sons of Veterans Reserve (SVR).

Charlie and his wife, Kathleen, have two sons, Benjamin and Mark, both of whom are also members of Camp No. 24, as is Charlie's father, Charles K. Mabie, and grandfather, the late Carl F. Mabie. Carl's father, Carl K. Mabie, was a member of John A. Logan Camp No. 20 of Los Gatos, California. All of the family has claimed their membership though Carl K. Mabie's father, Benjamin F. Mabie, a Private in Battery B of the 1st Minnesota Heavy Artillery. Benjamin belonged to the Grand Army of the Republic (GAR) in Sherbourne County, Minnesota, and later joined the E.O.C. Ord Post in Los Gatos.

Currently, Charlie serves as a Scoutmaster with the Boy Scouts of America. His hobbies include building and firing matchlock guns and cannons. He is the co-founder of Students of Old Technology (SOOT) and is a member of E Clampus Vitus Chapters 1 and 13.
