ELECTION, APPOINTED OFFICERS, & DEPARTMENT HEADQUARTERS

 

By the authority vested in me as President of the Department of California and Pacific, by the Department Bylaws, and the National Constitution, Rules and Regulations, it is hereby ordered as follows:

Section 1: Having been duly elected Department President by the Annual Department Encampment in regular session at San Luis Obispo, California on March 13, 2010, it is with sincere appreciation for the continued support and confidence shown to me that I resume command of the Department of California and Pacific for the term, 2010-2011.

I hereby establish my residence in the City of Gilroy, County of Santa Clara, and State of California as the Department Headquarters. Correspondence on any matter is most welcomed and may be sent to my home address, 9110 Avezan Way, Gilroy, California 95020-7545, or to my e-mail address, president@suvpac.org. Auxiliary reports and dues shall be sent to the Department Secretary at 5352 Hackett Avenue, Lakewood, California 90713-1725.

DEPARTMENT ORDER No. 2
Series 2010-2011

DEPARTMENT COMMITTEE ON BYLAWS

 

By the authority vested in me as President of the Department of California and Pacific, by the Department Bylaws, and the National Constitution, Rules and Regulations, it is hereby ordered as follows:

Section 1: In accordance with Department Order No. 3, Series 2009-2010, the Department Committee on Bylaws is a standing committee of this Department.

Section 2: The Committee shall periodically review the Department Bylaws, bringing necessary revisions to the attention of the Department President. The Committee shall file a written report with the Department Secretary, on no less than an annual basis, to be presented at each annual Department Encampment. The report shall include, but not be limited to, actions, findings, and recommendations of the Committee for the twelve months prior to the Encampment at which the report is being presented.

Section 3: The Committee shall also work with the local Auxiliaries to ensure that they have Auxliary Bylaws in place, and that said Bylaws are not in conflict with the Department Bylaws or the National Constitution, Rules and Regulation.

Section 4: The following Sisters and Brothers are hereby appointed members of the Department Committee on Bylaws:

  • Sister Cynthia L. Eddy (Member)
  • Sister Debra L. Earl (Member)
  • Brother Loran T. Bures (Special Aide)

Section 5: The Department President shall serve as an ex-officio member of the Committee.

Series 2010-2011

DEPARTMENT SPECIAL COMMITTEE ON
2012 NATIONAL ENCAMPMENT

 

By the authority vested in me as President of the Department of California and Pacific, by the Department Bylaws, and the National Constitution, Rules and Regulations, it is hereby ordered as follows:

Section 1: A Department Special Committee on the 2012 National Encampment is hereby established.

Section 2: The Committee shall coordinate the Department of California and Pacific's efforts at hosting the 2012 National Encampment of the Allied Orders. Activities should include, but not be limited to, fundraising and coordination with local Auxiliaries, the National Organiztion of the Auxiliary to Sons of Union Veterans of the Civil War, and other Allied Orders. The Committee shall file a written report with the Department Secretary, on no less than an annual basis, to be presented at each annual Department Encampment. The report shall include, but not be limited to, actions, findings, and recommendations of the Committee for the twelve months prior to the Encampment at which the report is being presented.

Section 3: The Committee shall continue in existence until the 2013 Department Encampment, at which time the Committee shall present its final report and be discharged.

Section 4: The following Sisters are hereby appointed members of the Department Special Committee on 2012 National Encampment:

DEPARTMENT ORDER No. 4
Series 2010-2011

OBSERVANCE OF MEMORIAL DAY

 

By the authority vested in me as President of the Department of California and Pacific, by the Department Bylaws, and the National Constitution, Rules and Regulations, it is hereby ordered as follows:

Section 1: General Order No. 11, issued in 1868 by Gen. John A. Logan, Commander-in-Chief of the Grand Army of the Republic, called for a day to be set aside "for the purpose of strewing with flowers or otherwise decorating the graves of comrades who died in defense of their country" and to "arrange such fitting services and testimonials of respect as circumstances may permit." This day is now known as Memorial Day.

Section 2: Our obligation as Sisters of the ASUVCW is to keep and observe Memorial Day. Every Auxiliary should participate in at least one Memorial Day event. As few frateranal organizations have ever created a national holiday, it is truly our duly to carry this on, and keep green the memory of the Boys in Blue.

Section 3: Auxiliary Sisters are hereby encouraged to observe Memorial Day by participating in or establishing appropriate events in their local communities.

The foregoing Department Order is proclaimed this 25th day of May in the year of our Lord Two Thousand Ten, and of the Independence of the United States of America the two hundred thirty-fourth, in the City of Gilroy, County of Santa Clara, State of California by Rachelle M. DEPARTMENT ORDER No. 5
Series 2010-2011

PASSING OF LGAR PAST NATIONAL PRESIDENT OPAL A. NELSON

 

By the authority vested in me as President of the Department of California and Pacific, by the Department Bylaws, and the National Constitution, Rules and Regulations, it is hereby ordered as follows:

Section 1: It is with a heavy heart that I report the passing of Opal A. Nelson, Past National President of Ladies of the Grand Army of the Republic (LGAR), who died unexpectedly on December 20, 2010 at the age of 81 years.

Section 2: Sister Nelson served as National President of the LGAR in 2000-01 and 2005-06, and was a long-time dedicated member of Lookout Circle No. 24 of Annandale, Minnesota.

Section 3: She served as a volunteer at the Minnesota Veteran’s Home and the Veterans Affairs Medical Center, and was an active member of the Ladies Auxiliary to the Veterans of Foreign Wars.

Section 4: Sister Nelson was a familiar face at the National Encampments of the Allied Orders of the Grand Army of the Republic and her absence will be noticed.

Section 5: The Department and all Auxiliary Charters are to be draped in black for a period of thirty (30) days.

Section 6: All Department Sisters are respectfully directed to attach a black mourning ribbon to their membership badge for a period of thirty (30) days.

Section 7: The Department of California and Pacific extends its sincere condolences to the LGAR and family of Sister Nelson.

The foregoing Department Order is proclaimed this 8th day of January in the year of our Lord Two Thousand Eleven, and of the Independence of the United States of America the two hundred thirty-fifth, in the City of Gilroy, County of Santa Clara, State of California by Rachelle M.
