ELECTION, APPOINTED OFFICERS, & DEPARTMENT HEADQUARTERS

 

By the authority vested in me as President of the Department of California and Pacific it is hereby ordered as follows:

Section 1: Having been duly elected Department President by the 99th Annual Department Encampment in regular session at San Luis Obispo, California on March 7, 2009, it is with sincere appreciation for the continued support and confidence shown to me that I resume command of the Department of California and Pacific for the term, 2009-2010.

I hereby establish my residence in the City of Gilroy, County of Santa Clara, and State of California as the Department Headquarters. Correspondence on any matter is most welcomed and may be sent to my home address, 9110 Avezan Way, Gilroy, California 95020-7545, or to my e-mail address, president@suvpac.org. Auxiliary reports and dues shall be sent to the Department Secretary at 5352 Hackett Avenue, Lakewood, California 90713-1725.

DEPARTMENT ORDER No. 2
Series 2009-2010

PASSING OF SISTER KARI LYNN ECKHOLT-MOWREY

 

By the authority vested in me as President of the Department of California and Pacific it is hereby ordered as follows:

Section 1: It is my sad duty to report the passing of Sister Kari Lynn Eckholt-Mowrey on March 9, 2009 after complications from surgery. She was only 44 years of age.

Section 2: Kari was an active Auxiliary Sister and Charter Member of the Ivy Stiers Auxiliary No. 23 of Santa Rosa, California, of which she was the current Vice President. She had also served as a Trustee of the Department of California and Pacific.

Section 3: Kari was the wife of Brother Kevin Mowrey, Senior Vice Commander of the Col. Elmer Ellsworth Camp No. 23.

Section 4: The Department and all Auxiliary Charters are to be draped in black for a period of thirty (30) days.

Section 5: All Department Sisters are respectfully directed to attach a black mourning ribbon to their membership badge for a period of thirty (30) days.

Section 6: The Department of California and Pacific extends its sincere condolences to the family of Sister Eckholt-Mowrey and to the Sisters of her Auxiliary.

DEPARTMENT ORDER No. 3
Series 2009-2010

ESTABLISHMENT OF DEPARTMENT COMMITTEE ON BYLAWS

 

By the authority vested in me as President of the Department of California and Pacific it is hereby ordered as follows:

Section 1: A Department Committee on Bylaws is hereby established as a standing committee of this Department.

Section 2: The Committee shall periodically review the Department Bylaws, bringing necessary revisions to the attention of the Department President. The Committee shall file a written report with the Department Secretary, on no less than an annual basis, to be presented at each annual Department Encampment. The report shall include, but not be limited to, actions, findings, and recommendations of the Committee for the twelve months prior to the Encampment at which the report is being presented.

Section 3: The following Sisters and Brothers are hereby appointed members of the Department Committee on Bylaws:

  • Sister Cynthia L. Eddy (Member)
  • Sister Debra L. Earl (Member)

Section 4: The Department President shall serve as an ex-officio member of the Committee.

DEPARTMENT ORDER No. 4
Series 2009-2010

OBSERVANCE OF MEMORIAL DAY

 

By the authority vested in me as President of the Department of California and Pacific it is hereby ordered as follows:

Section 1: One hundred forty years ago, the Commander-in-Chief of the Grand Army of the Republic, Gen. John A. Logan, issued his General Order No. 11, officially creating Memorial Day.

Section 2: Our obligation as Sisters of the ASUVCW is to keep and observe Memorial Day. Every Auxiliary should participate in at least one Memorial Day event. As few frateranal organizations have ever created a national holiday, it is truly our duly to carry this on, and keep green the memory of the Boys in Blue.

Section 3: Auxiliary Sisters are hereby encouraged to observe Memorial Day by participating in or establishing appropriate events in their local communities.

DEPARTMENT ORDER No. 5
Series 2009-2010

PASSING OF SISTER MARGARET "PEGGY" MANN, PDP

 

By the authority vested in me as President of the Department of California and Pacific it is hereby ordered as follows:

Section 1: It is my sad duty to report the passing of Sister Margaret E. “Peggy” Mann of Grover Beach, California on August 18, 2009. She died peacefully in her sleep at the age of 91 years.

Section 2: Sister Mann was a lifelong member of our Order, belonging to Fresno Auxiliary No. 6, and rising through the ranks to Department President in 1982. She also served many years as Department Secretary-Treasurer.

Section 3: Peggy was the daughter of the late Thelma Alice (Guest) Crawford (1896-1991) who served as Department President in 1962 and 1976. Her eligibility to membership was based on her great-grandfather Adolphus Alonzo Guest of the 2nd U.S. Volunteer Sharpshooters.

Section 4: With the passing of Sister Mann, the Department of California and Pacific has lost another living link to our past.

Section 5: The Department and all Auxiliary Charters are to be draped in black for a period of thirty (30) days.

Section 6: All Department Sisters are respectfully directed to attach a black mourning ribbon to their membership badge for a period of thirty (30) days.

Section 7: The Department of California and Pacific extends its sincere condolences to the family of Sister Mann.

DEPARTMENT ORDER No. 6
Series 2009-2010

DEPARTMENT ENCAMPMENT

 

By the authority vested in me as President of the Department of California and Pacific it is hereby ordered as follows:

Section 1: The annual Department Encampment of the Department of California and Pacific, Auxiliary to Sons of Union Veterans of the Civil War shall take place at 9:00 am on Saturday, March 13, 2010 at the Non-Commissioned Officers (NCO) Club at the California National Guard’s Camp San Luis Obispo, 10 Sonoma Avenue in San Luis Obispo, California.

Section 2: Each Auxiliary is allotted one (1) Delegate, and one (1) additional Delegate for each ten members and major fraction thereof, and an equal number of Alternate Delegates, based on the membership reported December 31st, 2009.

Section 3: Each Delegate and Alternate Delegate shall be issued appropriate Credentials by their local Auxiliary Secretary, which shall be presented when registering at the Encampment, along with a valid membership card. As this Department does not have a Membership-at-Large, no credentials will be issued by the Department Secretary.

Section 4: There will be an informal "camp fire" social gathering at the same location on Friday evening, March 12, 2010, beginning at 5:00 pm.

Section 5: We will be celebrating the 100th Anniversary of the establishment of our Department in 1910 and all Sisters are encouraged to attend. A number of honored guests, including National President Nancy Greenwalt Hilton, will be in attendance to help us mark "100 Years of Sisterhood!"
